Mary Beth Sekurski

Biographical Information

Mrs. Sekursi began teaching first grade at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary School in the fall of 2003. She is licensed by the state of Massachusetts and has a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. She enjoys making her classroom a place for students to experience learning new and exciting things. It’s a classroom where all students are treated equally and where each individual student receives what is necessary for him or her to achieve excellence.

Six and seven year old students are curious and act like sponges who take in information any way they can. All students young and old learn in many different styles, and that is why Mrs. Sekurski's students talk and discuss a lot in her class, conduct experiments, read , write, sing, and most importantly help each other to learn and grow. One day the students may be learning a song that teaches the various ways seeds are spread and the next reviewing it through creative drawings.

Personal Note

I served as the school’s Teacher Representative on the School Board for three years and believe that our Board values input from the teachers. The belief that we all need to work cooperatively (teachers, parents, school board) to make our school a success is one reason we have been in the community for over 100 years.

I try to instil a sense of autonomy in the children in my class, and I hope that they will want to achieve successes both in and outside of school. My belief in the Catholic faith and working at a Catholic school allows me to express not only educational values but moral values so that the children learn to care about themselves and others not only in their community but in the world.

My two children graduated from Our Lady of the Holy Rosary School. My daughter is presently a sophomore at the Commonwealth Honors School at UMASS Amherst; and my son is a sophomore at Gardner High School.
